About our Farms
At the heart of the land
Our Family Owned and Operated Farms
Cabrillo Cottage Farms — Aptos
Cabrillo Cottage Farms began as a long-forgotten rose farm that we lovingly restored over seven years, bringing it back to life as a u-cut rose experience in Aptos. Today, some of the roses blooming here are nearly 50 years old, carrying with them a sense of history and timeless beauty.
We transform our roses into both edible creations—like our rose sugar—and handcrafted apothecary products. The land itself holds a rich past, once serving as a gathering place during the 1960s counterculture movement. Today, it continues to bring people together through indoor and outdoor music events, creating a space where nature, creativity, and community meet.
Birdsong Orchards — Watsonville
Birdsong Orchards has lived many lives—as a flower farm, an equestrian facility, and a cherished part of the Pajaro Valley’s agricultural history. We became stewards of this special land in October 2025.
Now, Birdsong is home to an incredibly diverse orchard, with dozens of varieties of apples, stone fruit, figs, citrus, persimmons, and more. Each season brings something new to discover, taste, and experience, making it a vibrant and ever-changing place to explore.
Fun Facts About Our Farms
Across both locations, we care for approximately 2,000 rose plants grown for cutting. Each farm has its own unique soil, microclimate, and personality—meaning even when we grow the same varieties, they express themselves differently. Visiting both farms offers a chance to experience these subtle, beautiful differences firsthand.
Our Philosophy
We are regenerative, organic rose and fruit farms rooted in the rhythms of nature. Every decision we make is guided by a deep respect for the land—working to nurture its beauty while giving back to it with intention and care.
We grow without chemicals, using only organic inputs alongside composting, mulching, cover cropping, and companion planting to build healthy, living soil. This allows us to produce vibrant flowers and deeply nourishing fruit.
Our farms are designed as ecosystems where pollinators, butterflies, and native plants thrive together. Nothing is wasted—fallen petals return to the soil, plant material is composted, and even old tools are repurposed into something useful or beautiful.
We minimize the use of gas-powered tools, relying instead on hand work and thoughtful practices. Water is used carefully and consciously.
This is more than a farm—it is a living, breathing system where everything is connected. A place where the land, the flowers, and the community grow together in harmony.
