Heirloom Apple Walk & A Fig Sale!

Heirloom Apple Walk & Tasting

We are growing over 50+ varieties of heirloom apples in our orchard in Watsonville. I would like to share the joy of growing and eating them with you.

Please join me on Saturday September 24th for a stroll through our orchard. We will talk about selecting varieties, sources for saplings, planting apple trees, pruning, watering, fertilization, thinning and harvesting as well as common apple diseases and pests in our climate. We will also absolutely be tasting and eating some delicious apples.

$45 per person which includes an 8 pound box of mixed heirloom apples and pears.

Apples & Pears for Friends & Fans Faraway

I know, I know not all of you can make it to our little farm in Watsonville. So in a week or two I will list heirloom apple and pear boxes available for shipping. I’ll announce it in this newsletter (and blog and social media) real soon, promise!

Flash Fig Sale!

We have a wonderful abundance of figs right now, over 30 varieties ripening on the trees, so I am putting them on sale for the next three days. Get them while they last, for they absolutely will sell out! This sale will end on Saturday night, September 17th. I will be adding inventory throughout the week as I harvest, so if you don’t see anything available feel free to check back later in the day and week. Pick up is this Saturday at the farm only.

Figs are some my favorite fruit trees in the orchard, and they love our climate, the hotter the better. If we are talking about a future proof fruit tree for our area, this is a good bet. There are thousands of varieties grown worldwide, and pretty much every one of the 40+ varieties I have planted here has thrived. If it survives the gophers, that is. Gophers will eat a fig tree roots and kill it in a day. I have finally learned my lesson, and plant all new fig trees in gopher cages.
