Volunteer Days at the Farm

Cabrillo Cottage Farms and Birdsong Orchards will be hosting a volunteer weekend this year to celebrate the renewal of the roses. These two days, December 6 in Watsonville and December 7, will be specifically focused on the renewal or roses.
If you are a grower of many roses or tend to a single rose plant, the renewal of the rose is the same process for everyone. It begins in the dormant season, when the plant begins to go to sleep; we preserve its energy and prune what is no longer needed on the plant from the past growing season. We put the plant to sleep by preparing a nice clean bed for the rose to sleep in: by removing weeds, unnecessary canes, unwanted root stock and debris from the bottom of the plants. It’s nice to start the winter sleep in a clean bed and with some spring cleaning, we will get to watch the rose plant bloom and renew again.
Please fill out the form below to let us know you are coming and we can prepare a great day for you. The day will include tool cleaning, rose pruning workshop, and rose pruning!
