A Season of Wreaths & Persimmons

A Season of Wreaths & Persimmons

This time of year always brings to me a breathless anticipation of rain. Most of the tree fruits have been harvested for the year, then carefully tucked into cold storage to chill and mature. The ground is dry, parched where not irrigated, often barren of green low growth. The wind, the sky, the hills in the distance all seem waiting for the true turn of the season when the rains return. The persimmon trees with their glowing fruits and changing leaves are the last splash of color and delicious delight before we wish the orchard a good hibernation for a while.

And of course we celebrate the harvest and hivernal holidays as humans have done since before recorded history, across so many different cultures and in so many different ways. Here at Birdsong Orchards, we have a few seasonal offerings to share as well. Keep reading to join in the autumnal fun.

WREATH WORKSHOPS BACK AGAIN!

We have two wreath workshops coming up, one before Thanksgiving and one before Christmas. Come make your own beautiful, fragrant and locally foraged wreath to decorate your home. I am so pleased that the very talented and delightful Jessica Tunis is coming back to teach these workshops once again.

Make your reservations soon since these workshops tend to sell out. Detals and reservations at the links below

FARM STAND CLOSED FOR THE SEASON

All good things must come to a seasonal close in the farming year. Our Sunday farm stand is now closed for the year. We will open again in April or May of next year.

FRUIT BOXES FOR SHIPPING

To make up for closing the farm stand, I have created two fruit boxes you can order online for shipping anywhere in the continental USA.

The first is a pairing of two unusual persimmons, Saijo and Coffee Cake.
The second is a pairing of two of my absolute favorite heirloom apples, Wickson and Cinnamon Spice aka Laxton's Fortune.

If these boxes are popular, I will add more with different apple, persimmon and pear varieties.

For my local friends in the Monteray Bay area,
I will be offering Thanksgiving fruit boxes for online ordering and local pick up in the next week or two. Each box will contain unique and delicious heirloom apples, pears, quince and persimmons to share with your family and decorate your table during the holiday.

I’ll announce them here and on Facebook and Instagram, so keep an eye out.
